About the grant
DHR established in 2021 the Vilhelm Ekensteen grant to honour the memory of Vilhelm Ekensteen, a disability policy pioneer and advocate for the rights of those entitled to assistance. The grant is awarded to a person who has meritably, successfully and over time improved society by influencing and enlightening decision-makers in Sweden about norms and living conditions that negatively affect people with reduced mobility. The person should also continuously and persistently provide good proposals on how society can be improved. The grant is SEK 10,000 and is awarded every other year. Nominations are made by DHR's members during the period 1 April to 31 October in odd-numbered years. The nominee must have accepted the nomination and the nomination must contain a clear justification.
