About the grant
Charlotte Thålin is awarded the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation's Large Research Grant 2026 of 20 million SEK to investigate whether an inhalation treatment with the antibody IgA can protect people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) against infections and inflammation in the airways. The project aims to develop a preventive treatment that can reduce recurrent respiratory infections in COPD patients and thereby improve their quality of life. The research includes analysis of antibodies from patients, tests in organoids and collaboration with KTH for antibody production. The goal is to create a treatment that can be used preventively during periods of high infection risk.
