About the grant

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management invite researchers to apply for funding for a 5-year research programme focusing on the ecosystem approach and transformative change towards sustainable human-biodiversity interactions at landscape level. The programme will study how coordinated management of different types of landscapes according to the ecosystem approach can be broadly realised. Applications are in two steps with first step by 15 October 2021 and second step by 15 February 2022. The programme has a max budget of 45 million SEK and intends to fund a single programme. The programme will address social, ecological and societal aspects of landscape management and contribute to knowledge development in areas such as policy instruments, governance, actor behaviour, socio-economic aspects, environmental monitoring, knowledge exchange, justice and social inclusion, and nature-based solutions focusing on climate adaptation.

Requirements

  • Application must be made by researchers at universities, colleges, research institutes or authorities with a PhD and employment for research.
  • Principal investigator, communicator and subproject leaders must be affiliated with an organisation with a Swedish organisation number.
  • Previously granted research funds from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency must have an approved final report to be eligible for new funding.
  • Programme description in step 1 must include project leader, administrator, communicator, description of research question, coordination, subprojects, scientific and societal relevance.
