About the grant
The Swedish Forests and Ecosystems Initiative started in 2022 after a consultation process with researchers, environmental organisations and experts to identify challenges related to the forest. The programme focused on three areas: highlighting good examples, preserving and restoring nature and promoting Sami rights and influence. Six organisations received a total of 15.4 million SEK to carry out projects contributing to positive development for the Swedish forest and its ecosystems. The projects have among other things developed tools for sustainable forestry, restored forest land and strengthened Sami rights and cooperation between Sami villages and forest owners. The initiative has also strengthened the organisations' capacity and long-term work for the forest.
